Brenda Strumpher - "Ithole"
Oil on Canvas
W: 600mm x H: 900mm x D: 45mm
Approx. Weight: 5kg

This portrait of a young calf was painted to give it a personal identity and therefore make the viewer question the welfare of our commercial livestock. Animals have a soul!
My early work was influenced by growing up in rural Zimbabwe on the banks of the Zambezi river and included landscapes and floral abstracts. More recently my work has been influenced by life in the Eastern Cape. I love to visually explore my natural surroundings, from differant aspects of the landscape, to what lies beneath the waves. The organic shapes and textures of nature, resonate in my style of painting and mark making.I strive to look beyond the social ills of the world we live in and find pure enjoyment in the images that nature presents to us, if we keep our eyes open!
