About Brenda

Born in the United Kingdom and raised in South Africa from the age of four, I find inspiration in the landscape, flowers and wildlife of this beautiful country.
I am primarily a figurative artist, with my focus being on capturing the essence or soul of my subject through the eyes. I began painting in earnest approximately 16 years ago, and spent a few years under the mentorship and tutorship of a well respected local artist, now retired. I paint in oils, acrylic and pastels and introduce textures and mixed media to enhance certain paintings. My painting style to date is based on realism in order to capture the beauty of my subjects in their perfection.
I have done numerous commissions over the years, and feel proud to have had one of my paintings, commissioned by a former Miss South Africa, featured in a magazine article.
I am currently a full time artist, and also teach art classes in my home town of Westville, near Durban.
