About "Just A Trickle"

I love the outdoors and hiking in the mountains near my home is a frequent pastime. Disa Gorge is a perfect rest area after a long hike.In the summer the stream in the gorge becomes a mere trickle, yet its welcome water is sweet and refreshing. Fallen leaves, rocks, broken twigs in the shallow water mix with dappled light and transform these very ordinary objects into an exciting combination for a painting. I love to paint in larger formats. Three canvas's 600mm x 600mm placed end to end creates an illusion that the stream has continuity beyond its brief season in a winter rainfall area.

About Ann

Ann Hamm

I am currently working in Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. Although my time has been divided between two continents for the past 2 years, the natural beauty, the wild and rugged climates of both landscapes still manages to captivate and inspire me. I draw inspiration from long meditative walks along the mountain streams of the Cape in South Africa when I am there.
In Canada I bicycle to Deer Lake Park a short distance away. So many new undiscovered images fill the mind with inspiration. Water has always had a fascination and special enchantment for me. In Canada I make new discoveries in its different states: tranquil and reflective, flowing or frozen. Coming from Africa, snow is the most magical experience. However I have experienced Canada in the summer and delighted in spectacular autumns. Now with winter upon us once again the falling leaves strewn across my pathway in the morning is just as distracting for an artist! I love being able to experience 4 complete seasons.
My husband and I are enthusiastic hikers and love camping. A favourite place is on the West Coast towards Whistler, a ski resort made famous with the Winter Olympics. I have mountains and rivers and trees and endless paths to follow...in fact not nearly enough time to paint everything!

My training was essentially as a Ceramic Artist. I participated in joint ceramic exhibitions after graduating. I continued working in ceramics for a period of 20 years migrating to painting and teaching full time.

I have been an active member of the South African Society of Artists since 1995. Group exhibitions at the Gallery in Kirstenbosch Gardens has met with increasing success. Much of my work travels overseas.
