Dorothy du Plessis - "Mask"
W: 290mm x H: 400mm x D: 10mm
This work is framed (but can be supplied either framed or unframed)
I investigate our human need for love and what is behind the masks we put on to gain that affection.
I qualified as a Textile designer at the Pretoria Technikon in 1983 and for a number of years designed and printed material for the craft and quilters markets. A few years ago I went back to the Technikon to do my B Tech in Textile Design and Technology, which I thouroghly enjoyed. I was fortunate to work as a designer for Mosaic Arts in Pretoria for several years. I love the vibrance of the colours and textures of mosaic tiles and the challenge of creating a whole design out of small bits and pieces. I was invloved in designing mosaics that were sent to places like Dubai, the Seychelles, Mauritius and the Ivory Coast. I was privileged to have designed the mosaic pillars for the Oprah Winfrey Leadership School in Henley-on-Klip. Presently I am involved with the Quin Sculpture Garden where the work of sculptor Maureen Quin is exhibited. My paintings are an expression of my emotions, my observations, my hopes and dreams. i hope with all my heart that my work will touch the viewer in his inner being.
