Delaney draws inspiration from the raw, natural landscape, particularly in southern Africa where he's spent most of his life and travelled extensively through its wild areas. His technique, now evolved through several distinct phases over the past two decades, makes reference to Korean and Japanese painting, Monet's vast water lily canvasses in Paris, Rothko, cave walls of ancient bushman paintings, Pollock and Aboriginal paintings.
