Born on the farm Hillmoor near Steynsburg in the Great Karoo,Pieter is a self taught artist.

As he grew older he became influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Pissaro. He embarked on a full-time career as an artist in 1997, a painter of 42 years standing and has an established collectorship in South Africa and abroad.
