About "David Banda and the Hyena Madonna" I had been drawing a young man and listening to a piece regarding David Banda the Malawian boy adopted by the pop singer Madonna. I imagined him older, as an African starting a career in something clerky and respectable while the dark world of Africa looms behind him. I suppose I was also thinking that the pop star was a bit of a carrion feeder, too. I don't try to think too much about what makes my work the way it is, or to try to rationalize it. One can only relate what was going on at the time as best one can. |
