About "Motherly Love"

"Motherly Love op. 4" is a mixed media artwork utilizing a flame fractal design on the lions' fur created by the artist, Dr. G. Michael Durst. It is hand-glazed with many layers
of acrylic paint and varnish to bring out the beautiful colours and to create a three dimensional effect.

By utilizing lustrous textures, vivid patterns, bold colours, and light radiance, the process involves dozens of carefully designed, richly coloured layers, to create jewel-like images that inspire and delight.

The determined lioness carries her impish cub showing the love and protectiveness that motherhood embodies. This art work goes beautifully with the male lion called "Fire Lion" also listed on this site.

This work has been featured on the home page of many art
websites, including:

"Collectors' Gallery"

"All Natural Beauty"

"Greeting Cards for All Occasions"

"Images That Excite You"

"World We See" and

"Art and Meditation"

This beautiful work measures 59.4cm by 84.1cm and is "gallery-wrapped" which means it is painted on all four sides so it doesn't need to be framed unless desired. It can be taken off the stretchers for safe and economical international shipment.

It would look stunning in any room of the house or in an office.

About Dr. Michael

Dr. Michael Durst

According to the Ico Gallery in New York, "Dr. Michael Durst is one of the most exciting South African artists. As a psychologist, Dr. Durst's paintings create not only beauty for the beholder, but also a state of relaxation and healing. His work combines realism with impressionism, evoking an emotional link to the heart thus the name: Heartscapes.

Dr. Durst loves to paint the beauty of Cape Town--especially the Waterfront, Table Mountain, ocean views, spring flowers, the vineyards and, of course, the people of the Cape. According to Dr. Durst, "I like to re-create a "magical moment" that I have experienced. As I do so, I strive to achieve a delicate balance between the realism and impressionism of the scene and the even greater intensity created by fractals with light, texture and colour. At a certain juncture, an integration occurs. The captured moment in time is taken in without judgment by the brain, allowing the vibrational intensity to adjust the frequency of the hearts rhythms. As the integrated process continues, the viewer becomes awash with positive emotions, a sense of peace, and greater coherence all of which contribute to physical, mental and spiritual healing."

In 2024, Dr. Durst was awarded the "Leonardo da Vinci Universal Artist Award in Milan, which is one of the art world's finest symbols of recognition, named after one of the greatest artists who has ever lived. It represents the pinnacle of an important artistic career.

His work has won countless First Place international awards, has appeared on covers of books, magazines and CD's and in the collections of many celebrities, organizations, and gallery exhibitions.
