About Jenny
Jenny Mallon was born and raised in Johannesburg and currently resides in Randburg with her two daughters.
She completed her schooling at Mcauley House Convent in 1983 and went on to obtain a Secretarial Diploma from Wits Technikon in 1984. During that year she attended drawing lessons with the late artist and teacher, Carlo Sadoya. From 1985 to 1987 she completed a 3 year course in Graphics at Wits Technikon, obtaining a National Diploma in Graphic Design.
Jenny worked as a graphic designer since 1988 working her way up to the studio manager of a medium sized design company. In 1993 she began to freelance and for the following 10 years operated an advertising / design business with her business partner.
With the introduction of computers to the industry Jenny began to feel very frustrated as an artist and in 1995 she began painting as a hobby. Through time she has developed her own style and her passion for painting grew. Jenny favours Acrylic as her medium, enjoying its versatility and the fast drying quality of the paint. She loved to paint fruit and flowers in previous years, selling most of her works through galleries. She has had the opportunity to worked on a variety of diverse and interesting projects over time, undertaking many private commissions, freelancing for paint studios, doing wall murals both large and small and generally developing the level of skill she has today.
Jenny's paintings are bold and bright, and are interpreted in a very dynamic larger than life way. Colour is important and she opts for bright, clean, fresh hues. Her background as a Graphic Designer is evident in her attention to detail, whilst still managing to achieve a degree of impressionism in her paintings. She has introduced abstract technique as a signature background to her acrylic portraits which are alive with energy and character. She also has an immense passion for drawing and strives to capture the essence of her subjects with her expert use of charcoal.
She is decided to return to drawing and in charcoal. She favours interesting subjects, endeavouring to capture character through attention to detail, emotion and expression, which is reflected in the eyes of her subjects. Working on different ethnic groups and old folk is a keen interest of hers.
Jenny has had her work exhibited in prominent galleries over the years, and has sold many works to a long list of very happy clients. She focuses more on undertaking commissions specifically requested by clients. She has a vast amount of experience behind her and feels confident to undertake all commissions and meet clients specific requirements.
Jenny presently works full time from her home where she teaches art classes and is creating her ranges of dynamic charcoal drawings.
