About "Self Portrait"
Evolution of the Soul, is a collection of self portraits throughout my journey of discovery and growth. This collection very personal, as it is the story of my life. It all came together quite by accident.
It's ironic how, before I painted the "Self Portrait", I couldn't understand why so many of the greats did them.
Until one day I found myself stuck and frustrated with my work. Nothing to paint.
I thought, ok, just quickly sketch yourself. You are a portrait artist, there is benefit in this. Well, the rabbit hole I went down that day lasted years !
Looking back, part of the frustration in my work was internal. The portraits, I see now are a valuable tool in moving through head space.
All portraits are true to reference, with exception of the obvious fantastical elements.
Each portrait is a distinct faze in my life with obstacles and challenges I worked through, hidden within each structure, colour and mark made.
When viewing them, keep this in mind.
I hope this expands your perception and understanding of the "Self Portrait", as did I.
Welcome to the collection, "Evolution of the Soul".

About Lauren
Lauren Ferguson, born 1985 Durban, South Africa, is a self-taught artist whose creative journey is inspired by the surrealism of Salvador Dali, the raw emotion of Francis Bacon, and the expressive movement of Vincent Van Gogh.
Her artistic endeavours have extended far beyond the canvas, as she's lent her talents to significant campaigns and noble causes. Ferguson's contributions to the Brexit campaign and her involvement with Prince Harry's Trust in support of Lesotho highlight her commitment to using art as a means of social and political impact.
Her pieces grace esteemed locations worldwide, including "The Face of an Angel" proudly displayed in the House of Commons in Belize. Additionally, her paintings enrich the ambiance of Mike Oldfield's previous residency at Old Down Manor in the UK, as well as "Man with Wisdom in his eyes" made an appearance in The Guardian alongside Arron Banks.
