About "Transcendental Elements: Fire 1 of 4"

Although this work is part of a set of four etchings, single prints are available. Since pre-historical times the four elements of fire, water, air and earth have been used to explain the creation and existence of the cosmos.Their influence on nature in general and on human beings whether emotionally, physically,or spiritually have been studied by phylosophers, alchemists, medical practitioners, spiritual leaders and artists throughout history. In many cultures the elements were deified or occur as important symbols in religious sacraments. These works were created as a means of praising God and worshipping his greatness.

About Titia

I use history and the varied cultural heritage of South Africa
as sources for images depicting life on a cultural boundary. My work is essentially a search for identity in a fast evolving country: questions about my past( descendant of French Huguenots) are coupled with questions about the future in a country where the Westernization of its original peoples and the
Africanization of European immigrants and colonists have been taking place for the past 300 - 400 years.
