About "Good Friday April 1994"

In 1994 Good Friday and South Africa's first democratic elections both happened in April. Our history of pain and conflict and the need for reconciliation and redemption are likened to Christ's death so that we may be redeemed. It is a prayer for the New South Africa.Symbols used are thorns, pins, blood, tearing.

About Titia

I use history and the varied cultural heritage of South Africa
as sources for images depicting life on a cultural boundary. My work is essentially a search for identity in a fast evolving country: questions about my past( descendant of French Huguenots) are coupled with questions about the future in a country where the Westernization of its original peoples and the
Africanization of European immigrants and colonists have been taking place for the past 300 - 400 years.
