About David

David Magnes

David Magnes is a familiar name in international sporting art. He has an established international reputation with over 20 years experience in Europe, the United States, and South Africa.
David Magnes was born in South Africa in 1963 and educated at Eden College in Johannesburg. He participated in numerous show jumping events and this love for horses quickly extended into a creative talent. He began his career painting portraits of racehorses, along with racing and polo scenes. In addition to his equine art, David has also had various successful wildlife and landscape shows. David is listed in the Dictionary of South African Painters and Sculptors. His work is well known in South Africa and has been exhibited in galleries and at racetracks in South Africa and the United States. David was selected as the 2010 Artist-in-Residence at Gulfstream Racetrack in Florida, USA.
David[0x1]s work has been commissioned by high profile clients such as the Oppenheimers of DeBeers, and his paintings hang in private collections here in the US and throughout the world. David moved to the US in 2000, and now resides in Miami, Florida. Racing legends painted by David Magnes include portraits of Kentucky Derby winners Funny Cide for owner Dave Mahan, Smarty Jones for owners Roy and Pat Chapman, and Big Brown for the private collection of Jeff Davis. David[0x1]s paintings have been auctioned for charitable events such as childhood leukemia, the Thoroughbred Trust Fund of South Africa, and for Laminitis research in memory of Barbaro. His work has been published in The Pastel Journal, and regularly exhibited in the Florida Museum of Art.
