Reference BWS 12/24 About "Black & White Series #12" To take a break from painting in oils and doing some drawing, I enjoy doing studies of cat(s). We have four cats in the house offering plenty of original images to work from. I start with a light gestural pencil drawing. The final painting is done with traditional Chinese materials only: Chinese brush (squirrel no.00), Chinese solid ink grinded on a slate stone and Chinese paper (containing 10% cotton). |

I, or my shotgun pilot teenage son, take random photographs through the windshield. As can be expected, only about 1 in a 100 can be edited and prove suitable as an oil painting. I work with a limited predetermined palette before I start a series of 24 works. There is specific personal symbolism to this: My birth date making me a Scorpio - 8th Zodiac -water sign. Coincidentally (and in this instance fittingly) element 24 is Chromium (Cr), a metallic element that can take on a high polish. Price Range US$ 57-1,430 Exhibitions Stellenbosch - Taal Fees x2 Education BA Fine Art IV [Stellenbosch University]; HDE [UNISA] People who chose Hugo's work also chose work by: Find other:
