He was commissioned to paint seven oil & pastel paintings for M.G.M Grand Hotel for their Corporate Offices in Las Vegas. Rob`s freedom finds expression today at Lake Pleasant in Phoenix AZ. When he is not traveling on Safari or doing shows, he and his wife Rosica live their dream of 30 years, on a 65 ft double story houseboat witch was especially remodeled and designed for this purpose. What more does an Artist want than to sit in his Studio overlooking this magnificent view of the lake surrounded by mountains and awesome sunsets. Rob`s a member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists and Pastel Society of America. He has won numerous competitions including Safari Club International, Shows In Reno, Dallas, North Dakota and the Ohlo Duck Stamp Competition Rob has been featured in publications such as Wildlife Art Magazine, Safari Magazine, Southwest Art, Sporting Classic and US Art news. He has also featured on Television in Britain, South Africa, Europe and the USA. He keeps his ideas fresh by going on Safari at least every two years with clients and many of his Art Collectors.
Achieving his own American Dream
During the last years that have followed, awards and other accolades have continued to come his way. In 1989, the society of Animal Artist gave Rob its highest honour, the Merit Award for outstanding work. And two years later, the Safari club named Macintosh Artist of the year at their 1991 International Convention. Additionally, his paintings have appeared on the front covers of Hunters Magazine and Safari Magazine. In 1992 Macintosh joined the distinguished roster of artists represented by the religious Greystone Press, and subsequently, demand for his limited edition prints has been consistent and strong. His work in the medium , as elsewhere, is known for its almost starling realism, as well as for its power at defining and preserving a mood.
These qualities are certain to serve Rob Macintosh well as he completes the original art for his important premiere collection in the popular plate medium. Recently, he unveiled After the Hunt a dramatic portrayal of a Bengal Tiger, now set to grace the artist's first-ever porcelain plate. The title of this inaugural series is Regal Hunters of the Wild, and it promises to draw upon that which Macintosh has actually observed and studied in the great outdoors. It`s very exciting to see my work reproduced on a porcelain surface, as the medium helps to bring out the depth of colour and fineness of detail. A number of Artists I admire have previously made their art available in this popular medium, and I am proud to take my place alongside them. In only a few years, Rob Macintosh has come a long way, both geographically and artistically. He has found a home he loves, and a audience that broadens with each new triumph. His successes as a painter, print artist, and now a collector plate artist, prove that there is much to be said for an artist choosing to follow his own guidelines and instincts. For in painting for himself, Rob Macintosh has created something in the way of pleasure and insight to other lovers of art and nature. His collector plate premier, After the Hunt continues that tradition.
