About "Cape Town Means Business 2"

The initial idea for “Cape Town means Business 1 & 2” arose from a casual chat about some art work for the new Cape Town branch of Fleishman-Hillard, Driving in to view the offices through Cape Town I was fascinated by the diversity of the architectural styles in the ever changing center of Cape Town. The only request from the client was “something that reflects a little bit of Cape Town”. I did not want to produce the usual “How many views of the mountain can I produce” and decided to explore other aspects of the Central Business District. With the aid of my, ever supportive husband, as a driver, we spent a couple of days “cruising” Cape Town and taking digital photos of the skyline from numerous locations. I found areas I had never seen before and really enjoyed my explorations. I chose several buildings that appeared to be visible from almost everywhere, the LG building, Safmarine House, Metropolitan Life, Absa, FNB Investec and Old Mutual. I also wanted to include some older aspects such as the Town Hall, a corner in Long St and the Rose street Mosque.
I started with a collage and ink pouring technique, then as the paintings developed my intrinsic need for some realism crept in! I deliberately re-arranged the buildings and invoke some artistic license re-locating the CTICC crane to represent Cape Towns ongoing development. The paintings could easily have been entitled “Cape Town, Old & New”. The painting is on loan to Fleishman until sold.

About Anne

Anne Lee

Born and educated in Glasgow, Scotland, Anne Lee studied drawing and oil painting at Glasgow School of Art.
Her interest in water-colour painting began in South Africa, where she studied and developed her technique mainly in landscape.
Following several trips to Kenya she began working in soft pastel inspired by the beautiful intricate beadwork and colourful dress of the Maasai.
A commission from Oxford University Press to provide illustrations of African children in school situations, for use in school readers and text books, was published in several African languages.

Recently she has begun painting in acrylic on canvas using texture and the colours found in nature to produce semi-abstract panels.
In 1993 she joined the South African Society of Artists and became a Council member in 1994 and was voted into the office of President for two years from 1998 to 1999. She was invited to be one of the judges for the Western Cape Watercolour Group[0x1]s Annual exhibition, held in 1999.
She is also a partner of the Original Cape Art Group, formed in 1998
