About "Cape Town Seascape Painting – Where Light Return"
Cape Town Seascape Painting - Where Light Returns captures the first light of dawn breaking over the Atlantic Ocean, viewed from the iconic Chapman's Peak Drive with Table Mountain rising beyond the shoreline.
This painting was born during a season when life felt heavy and uncertain. Seeking space to reflect, I travelled alone to the Cape coastline, where the vast ocean, rugged mountains and endless sky offered the quiet I needed to breathe, regain perspective and rediscover hope.
For me, this landscape is far more than one of South Africa's most spectacular views. It represents a place where nature reminds us that peace can return, even after life's most difficult storms. The meeting of sea, mountain and sky becomes a symbol of resilience, renewal and the courage to begin again.
Light is the soul of this painting. As the first rays of sunrise break across the Atlantic, they transform the coastline with warmth and possibility. Every sunrise carries the promise of a fresh beginning--a reminder that no season of darkness lasts forever and that hope is always waiting on the horizon.
Painted in rich oils with expressive brushwork and luminous colour, Where Light Returns invites the viewer to pause, breathe deeply and reconnect with a sense of calm. About Ida
Ida Lombard is a South African contemporary artist whose work explores light, nature, movement and the emotions hidden within a moment. Her distinctive Abstract Realism combines expressive oil painting, acrylics and mixed media to move beyond literal representation and reveal the atmosphere and feeling within her subjects.
Her connection with art began in childhood, influenced by time spent exploring the natural world and early exposure to the discipline of painting. After formal art studies and more than four decades of continued independent practice, Ida has developed a highly expressive visual language characterised by textured surfaces, energetic brushwork, palette-knife marks, expressive drips and layered colour.
Wildlife, landscapes, seascapes, botanical subjects and portraits recur throughout her work, with themes of light, stillness, vulnerability, endurance, hope and transformation. Rather than simply reproducing what she sees, Ida seeks to capture the spirit of a subject--the quiet tension beneath stillness, the movement within a landscape, or the emotional presence of an animal.
Today, Ida works full-time from her Johannesburg studio, creating original paintings for private collectors in South Africa and internationally. Her work is influenced by the expressive energy of artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Vladimir Volegov, as well as the storytelling power found in South African wildlife art.
Each painting is created as an original work, with professional artist-quality materials and a Certificate of Authenticity.
