About Louise

Louise de Klerk

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1967 and matriculated in a town named Klerksdorp.

I am a well established, versatile and creative artist with more than 16 years experience and my work showcases a lot of different subjects.

My work is highly in demand throughout South Africa and I am currently extending my market abroad.

My prime passion and focus is capturing the heart and soul of people in my paintings.

My versatility enables me to paint animals, landscapes, still live, seascapes, etc. - and I use these subjects as secondary focus on my paintings.

I am able to work with various art tools and in any form (Impressionistic, realistic, graphical, etc.) and is an artist able to combine different materials and styles in one workpiece.

My work is inspired by life events, memories of the past and often my own inner deeper feelings and experiences of life and people.

All my paintings are planned carefully but not within fixed boundaries ('May decide to change the course, technique or tools being used for a specific painting).

There is always an element of surprise to my finished product even for myself as the artist.

I love working with acrylic and oil paint and love drawing with charcoal sticks or coloured charcoal pencils on primarily stretched and flat board canvas or superwood.

My work is mainly categorised in three categories:

1) Classical (Realistic and naturalistic drawings and paintwork of people)
2) Sketches (A classical subject, but more drawing rather than painting)
3) Cartooning (Paintings and or sketches - drawing images from my rich childhood memories and experiences.

I grew up in the countryside between Jan Kempdorp and Hartswater, South Africa - in a time and place where children could play to their hearts' delight and donkey carts were an everyday phenomenon.
