About "Death of a Nation"

The ghostly images of three old Boers from the Anglo-Boer War era a long, long time ago. The hard life whilst on commando shows through their facial expressions, yet pride left as they willingly posed to have their legacy and immortality captured in an old style image. Their identity and freedom never surrendered. We shall persevere, we shall rise again!

About Ian

From a very young age I (including family and relatives)observed that I have a natural flair for art and in specific drawing with pencils and later on oil pastel. I am a very creative and hands-on practical person. I never attended any formal art classes throughout my school and work career, however, I was influenced by observing various art styles and techniques from numerous artists and the physical world around me. One of those artists is my wife whose speciality is creation of paintings of building structures and patterns with depth and somewhat touching on the abstract or modern depiction of the latter.

Strangely for quite some time (almost 18 years!) I never created any artworks until the passing away of my mother in early 2016. My sister, a mother, avid traveller, musician and lover of fine arts commissioned me to create something special for her, for displaying inside her little wooden cottage in a secluded spot in the family's next-door wild garden. The work (titled 'Moment of Summer')emerged beyond expectation, and that spurred me to dust off my old art tool box and re-opening the 'book of art creation', rekindling an old natural skill of mine creating in color, shape, though experience, observations, feelings and emotions and driven by passion for the beautiful things in life, capturing an image in a way special to me.

I love to identify images for painting off the beaten path, using some alchemy to transform an awareness or observation into a work of gold...

Thank you for joining my journey!

Enjoy!
