About Syd
I run my own graphic design and advertising studio, and have been in business for the past 25 years.
I do oil paintings in my spare time and am a member of the North Coast Art Group. My years of experience in graphic design are evident in many of my paintings which are rich in texture and colour, together with my love of blending colours. The varying techniques show the versatility of my passion. I am basically self taught but do have a diploma in commercial art.
My inspiration is derived from the absolute beauty of South Africa and it's people. I believe that as artists we have been gven a very special talent and we should use it to the best of our ability. We see what others don't.
Highlights to date, as regards my oil paintings:
* An oil painting of the Rotary Centennial Rose - which was propagated especially for the occasion, in February 2005. The painting was presented to the Rotary International President, Glen Estess at the African Centennial celebration in Johannesburg, and is currently displayed at the Rotary museum in Evanston, Illinois, U.S.A.
* I have sold paintings to people locally, as well as to people living in Mauritius, Ireland & San Diego in U.S.A.
Born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and educated at Northlands Boys High in Durban North.
I am a proud recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow award for my community work in helping others less fortunate.
