About Helena

Helena Schussel

Helena philosophy in life and art is to aim at living every moment, in the moment, capturing and appreciating ones environment and the beauty that can be found exactly where one finds oneself, NOW.

Inspired by the new thought mentor, Eckhart Tolle, Helena aims to capture an atmosphere and translate the invisible calm and beauty into an enduring piece of art.

Using realistic detail, but retaining spontenaity, Helenas style can best be described as realism with an element of abstract; and her chosen subjects are landscapes, seascapes, and skyscapes, with an overall aim to re-create the atmosphere of the moment.

After being awarded the definitive series of Stamps featuring Birds, which lasted from 1997 to 2002, Helena opened her first Solo exhibition launching the stamp collection at The National Art Gallery of Botswana.

As a result the majority of her commissioned work featured Birdlife and African landscapes for the following few years. Her recent work departs considerably from the detailed depiction of past collections, although occasionally she returns to high-realism if the subject matter or calls for it!
