About "How green is the Valley"
I live nearby and this is a familiar scene with the clouds rolling over the Helderberg. Some years ago there was a herd of Friesland cows resident on Vergelegen. I felt the need to include them in this lush green meadow after a good soaking rain storm left a puddle of water in the field.

About Ann
I am currently working in Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. Although my time has been divided between two continents for the past 2 years, the natural beauty, the wild and rugged climates of both landscapes still manages to captivate and inspire me. I draw inspiration from long meditative walks along the mountain streams of the Cape in South Africa when I am there. In Canada I bicycle to Deer Lake Park a short distance away. So many new undiscovered images fill the mind with inspiration. Water has always had a fascination and special enchantment for me. In Canada I make new discoveries in its different states: tranquil and reflective, flowing or frozen. Coming from Africa, snow is the most magical experience. However I have experienced Canada in the summer and delighted in spectacular autumns. Now with winter upon us once again the falling leaves strewn across my pathway in the morning is just as distracting for an artist! I love being able to experience 4 complete seasons. My husband and I are enthusiastic hikers and love camping. A favourite place is on the West Coast towards Whistler, a ski resort made famous with the Winter Olympics. I have mountains and rivers and trees and endless paths to follow...in fact not nearly enough time to paint everything!
My training was essentially as a Ceramic Artist. I participated in joint ceramic exhibitions after graduating. I continued working in ceramics for a period of 20 years migrating to painting and teaching full time.
I have been an active member of the South African Society of Artists since 1995. Group exhibitions at the Gallery in Kirstenbosch Gardens has met with increasing success. Much of my work travels overseas. 1998: Awarded Associateship(Society of South African Artists) 1999 : Most Innovative Work - Merit W/Colour Exhibition Best Watercolours - New Signatures(Bellville) Best Mixed Media - S.A.S.Artists 2000: Best Painting -Annual Competition: S.W.Art Group 3rd Prize - Merit W/Colour Exhb.(WCWG) 2nd Prize S.W.Art Group(Annual Exhibition) 2001: 2nd Prize - Merit W/Colour Exhb(WCWG) 2nd Prize - S.W.Art Group(Annual Exhibition) 2002: Highly Commended Merit W/Colour Exhb(WCWG) Public's Choice(voted best painting by visitors) Cream of the Crop S.W Art Group (Annual Exhb) Highly commended S.W.Art Group (Annual Exhb) 2003 : 2X Highly Commended Merit W/Colour Exhb ( WCWG) Dorp St. Stellenbosch Best Watercolour Vuleka Exh, Bellville Arts Ass. 2004: Highly commended(top ten)-S.A.Society of Artists Pastel: Summer Sunrise 2005: Highly commended(top ten)- S.A.
