Reference 40 About "Immortalising Mandi" I am trying to immortalise my sister who passed away with this portrait of her. The symbolism of the skull is immortality, life after death, transformation, free thinking, rebelliousness, courage in the face of death and that there is no such thing as a constant. Everything eventually changes. I chose to use an antelope skull because there is a North American Indian myth that tells of the antelope being the never ending cycle of death and rebirth. The antelope sacrificed it's body and showed humans how to use every part of its body for the good of the tribe. That is what my sister did because she donated her body to science so that it will keep serving man kind even after she has departed from it. |
