About "It's Time to Arise"

It's Time to Arise
To Believe the word for Tomorrow.
This has been a hard season, a difficult year,
Time to Arise.

Leonie continually experiment with her mediums, in an attempt to get new and different ways to use them. She has found a way to marry oils, acrylics, inks and encaustics, that gives her work a luminosity and texture that takes the viewer from one interesting area to another.

'I am a wandering eye poet, an eclectic color fanatic. I want my paintings to leap off the wall and overwhelm you with their tactile, layered, chocolate thick, color and texture.' Leonie.e.Brown Artist

My work, like my life, is a refelection of my life's journey. A progression over time of learning how to deal with the past, live in the present and not fear the future. But what I've learned, is that good decisions are based in trusting God and the people He surrounds me with.

The process of learning and painting has a simbiotic relationship. My work is complicated, because I am by nature an analizer and thinker. I want to understand why, what and where, and within that processing, I try reflect the values which I live by: Believe in God, believe the best of others, forgive, move on.

But like the process of giving bith, change is a slow and painful process. It takes long. I've learned that it is ok to make mistakes. Sometimes the best wisdom and the best work flow out of those mistakes. The hardest forgiveness.'

How I Create

The brightness of oils is mixed with the soft translucency of encaustics (wax), and creates hidden messages and layers below. The layering gives the work a softness and richness that invites the viewer to look closer and to experience the satin-smooth surface through touch. The wax layers get more and more translucent through the warmth emanating from the exploring human hand. The viewer becomes a part of the slow change and clarity of the if the message is rising from the depth of the hidden soul to the surface of the mind. There is a strange ethereal beauty to these paintings, as if made from air.
