About "Ken my"

"Then said a teacher, speak to us of Teaching. And he said: No man can reveal to you ought that which already lies half asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.
The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple among his followers, gives not of his wisdom, but rather of his faith and lovingness.
If he is indeed wise, he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind."
This painting was inspired by and is a tribute to all those teachers who can see the trust and hope in a child's eyes. The potential that often lies hidden underneath extreme behaviour and developmental difficulties or delays.
It is also about the pain, fear and rejection often felt by these so-called "handicapped" children and their parents.
Thank you to all those teachers, parents and mentors for drawing these children out of their dark corners and into the light. For providing a safe space for them. For accepting them. And most of all: For loving them.
The sale of this painting will go towards a school in the Western Cape, Bellville where these teachers work.

About Nini

I think one should be inspired by everything and it is often in the little things that we do not notice anymore that true inspiration lies. That could be the way light reflects from a waterfall against a rock face or a poem of Leonard Cohen, or simply the sound of rain. Just the act of creating could be inspiration enough! I believe inspiration comes from within and the external sources of inspiration acts as reminders to always be inspired !
