This moist, subtropical forest is not only home to the African Elephant and leopard, but also hosts a rich assortment of birds, reptiles and insects. I am just imagining what's to be found underneath all those thick layers of leaves and moss, and hiding behind the tree trunks...

Lara Nel is a local artist from Somerset West in the Western Cape.
She attended Parel Vallei High School, where she attained numerous awards for art, including the Montagu Arts Festival Award for best Oil Painting in 2001 and Best Art Student in 2001.
After working and traveling abroad for three years, (in which she sold numerous of her work in both Germany and Switzerland) Lara went on to study Graphic Design at the University of Stellenbosch.
In 2008 she was a Design Achievers Awards Finalist and was also awarded a Sappi Think Ahead Merit Award for her work. She attained her BA Honours degree in Visual Communication in 2008.
Lara enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, spending time outdoors, traveling and experiencing other cultures. She has a deep passion for animals and nature.
Africa is where her heart belongs...
I enjoy seeing and experiencing new places, but in spite of all the excitement and adventure it has to offer, there is never a sense of belonging. It is only here in the African landscape that I truly feel at home. This is why I love capturing the beauty and abundance of this rich land and all it has to offer.
She is currently working as a freelance Graphic Designer and Artist.
