About "Little Leopard"

A very special leopard encounter motivated this painting. There are a number of characteristics that make leopard special, but for me I am most moved by their eyes. Leopard eyes are almost ethereal. The colours range, but they all have a liquid gem-like quality, that if captured correctly transmits the animals character directly to the viewer.

About Carl

Carl Verster lives and works in Hillcrest, Kwa Zulu Natal in South Africa.

Carl: "Art has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. My father was a wizard with drawing and painting and was always turning stone and wood into the most marvellous figure sculptures. My mother still paints watercolour landscapes and would take me on trips to galleries as a young child. I studied "responsible" subjects but always knew that I would end up with art being what I would do. Paint is the most fantastic medium to work with and can easily be used to convey the most complex and subtle messages to the viewer.

I paint best when I am at emotional highs or lows, but always I am a painter ... it's what I do."
