About "Mielie Seller 2"
The Mielie (corn) seller walks the suburban streets of Johannesburg calling "mielies, mielies" She is one of South Africa's colourful characters and we don't see too many of them now days. I wanted to capture a custom that is dying out, which is such a shame. I always enjoying buying fresh corn from the mielie seller when she walks down my street.
"It has always been a dream of mine to be an Artist but life just happened and I never got around to doing anything about it. Being a full-time Mom and Granny was what occupied most of my time. Then eight years ago I started to draw and I just could not stop. I remember starting on a portrait sketch one evening and drinking coffee (lots of it) and then hearing birds chirping and I suddenly realized I had been at it all night. I watched the sun gently light up my front garden with a feeling of great satisfaction and pure bliss. And now as I spend time in my studio I wait for that magic moment when I am transported into another world where time stands still. All I want to do is make pictures, they keep me alive!"
