About "Mielie Seller"

Mielie (corn) sellers walk around our suburbs in Johannesburg. Their familiar cry "Mielies, Mielies" can be heard and housewives come out of their homes to buy fresh corn. I wanted to capture these colorful women before they disappear for ever. I loved the colors of her clothing and the sheer size of her.

About Margi

Margi Strever

"It has always been a dream of mine to be an Artist but life just happened and I never got around to doing anything about it. Being a full-time Mom and Granny was what occupied most of my time. Then eight years ago I started to draw and I just could not stop. I remember starting on a portrait sketch one evening and drinking coffee (lots of it) and then hearing birds chirping and I suddenly realized I had been at it all night. I watched the sun gently light up my front garden with a feeling of great satisfaction and pure bliss. And now as I spend time in my studio I wait for that magic moment when I am transported into another world where time stands still. All I want to do is make pictures, they keep me alive!"

Margi is now a full-time Artist working from her garden studio in the beautiful suburb of Parkview, Johannesburg. She works in oils and acrylics and enjoys the challenge of Portraiture but is equally comfortable in all categories. She runs informal art days where adults and children come to experiment and try out their skills in drawing and painting.
