Reference namakwaland farm About "Namakwaland farmstead" I grew up on a farm with the quiet, subtle beauty of greys and browns. I wanted to paint a landscape out of my comfort zone and the reds, oranges and yellows of Namakwaland were poles apart from the cooler neutral colors I usually choose. I believe one should make a conscious effort to stretch your own boundaries every now and then. It was fun, I had a good laugh every time I had to stop myself from toning down the colors and that is what a Namakwaland flower landscape reminds me of, the laughing and merriment of thousands of children (but I still prefer the quiter, subtle landscapes) |

I love the process of making art and I especially love paintings that also shows the stages the painting went through, from sketchy to finely rendered. To me, it shows the hand of the artist and makes the painting so much more than a photo of the subject. I aim to paint representationally, contrasting realism with abstract, vintage with modern, rough with soft. Women and landscapes are a recurring theme because I have a strong connection with both and wish to celebrate their essence in my paintings. I am constantly learning and developing my craft and it is the most fulfilling journey and relationship with moments of utter joy (and despair). Price Range US$ 90-350 Exhibitions Sanlam prize for best painting on show during 2010 GWK Salon exhibition.
