About Valerie

I am passionate about life, creation and people. I love to live life in vibrant colour and paint with the same feel. I am so glad to be living in Africa where the quality of the light is brilliant - luminous and translucent.

The earliest art works which I completed and are still in the hands of my mother - were at age 11 - a perfect watercolour of a rose and another of our white cat - pencil drawing. I have continued growing over the years, first taking lessons with one of South Africa's premier Watercolourists (Sue Kemp FWSSA) for many years, and then I transitioned into painting in acrylics and oils. I enjoy acrylics since one has to work very quickly because the paint dries so fast, especially in Johannesburg where I am based at present. I love working with rapid brush strokes so acrylics probably suits my style best, yet you will find amongst my work oils, acrylics and a few watercolours.

My work has featured in various Exhibitions around the country - in Johannesburg, Cape Town and George, and has sold from different Galleries including the Ivy Gallery in Johannesburg, the Chris Tugwell Gallery on Leisure Isle, Knysna, and other galleries in Wilderness and Ballito (near Durban, Kwazulu Natal). Works of mine are held in private collections both in South Africa and across the world, including the UK, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. I am also regularly requested to handle commissions for clients and would gladly discuss your requirements.
