About Tracey

Tracey Mathews

Born and raised in Gauteng,South Africa, Art has been my passion since childhood. I am inspired by the world around me, the beauty of nature, people and life itself. I strive to use painting as a meditative activity to bring about feelings of peace, joy and the happiness of childhood. It is my hope that the viewer experiences this carefree joy when experiencing my work.

Motivated by a fascination with the spiritual realm, I enjoy painting the formless- This is most often achieved through the representation of clouds and skies, which are a source of daily inspiration and spiritual rejuvenation for me. Clouds are symbolic of the ever-changing yet consistent beauty and majesty of the Universe, and also convey a sense of total freedom. There is Magic in the African sunset!

My beloved and beautiful homeland is a constant source of inspiration. Through landscapes and seascapes I hope to convey the ancient, quiet peace of the land. Succulents and cacti are one of my favourite plants to depict because of the fascinating variety in shapes and colours which they exhibit, as well as their iconic value in the South African landscape.

I love the richness of South African culture, and honour them by painting portraits of various people from various cultures and creeds, which are all beautiful and valuable in my eyes.

Working in a variety of media, I am happy to take on private or corporate commisions
