About "Quarrie Farm"
This delapidated house in the middle of the newly ploughed green field on Quarrie Farm was the inspiration for the painting. I painted it just in time before the mud brick building collapsed completely.Another piece of rural architecture and Cape vernacular lost forever.
Amanda Jephson lives on a fynbos farm, in the Southern Overberg of the Western Cape. In addition to having a wealth of beautiful flora around her, she and her husband share their farm with an array of animals including donkeys, cattle, geese, chickens and cats. Amanda works in oils, acrylics and graphic media and regards herself as a [0x1]ruralist[0x1]. Her subject matter is inspired by the rural country side : local landscapes, scenes from agrarian/animal life and vernacular farm architecture. Her style is bold and colourful with overtones of post-impressionism and expressionism.
