About "Rain in the Bo-Karoo"

My imagery is inspired by the stark vastness of the southern Free State Every aspect of my live is influenced by the land. I draw my inspiration from observing nature, always on the look for magical moments. My work has been an on-going exploration of what it feels like to be in that space, surrounded by all that air and light, feeling the tug of the horizon 360 degrees, the sense of limitlessness and blissful isolation. It always begins with an awe-filled moment-an area with an intense contrast of light, dramatic shadows or shapes-something that will sustain[0xD][0xA]my interest through the painting process.[0xD][0xA]The horizon and clouds are a magnet. I'm always drawn to the distant,[0xD][0xA]blue horizon and the succession of hills that create a tremendous sense[0xD][0xA]of vastness.[0xD][0xA]The creative process is about discovery. If you're not discovering[0xD][0xA]something in each attempt, the work is probably lifeless.
