About "Self-Employed"

For at least ten years of my life I did quite a lot of babysitting. For as long as I can remember, I really wanted to be a mother. Yet, for some reason I never thought of the amount of time and dedication that goes into it if it is actually your own children and you do it full time. It must be my age, but nowadays (even though I really love children) I am exhausted after a quick visit to friends who has small children. That[0x1]s why I am rather amazed when people ask stay at home moms what they do all day. Seriously? A stay at home mom is a self-employed woman with the most ridiculous working hours imaginable and no pay at the end of the month. You may wonder why people still do it, but despite it all, I think it must be the most rewarding thing to nurture children into adulthood and have them for friends for the rest of your life. It definitely adds a sense of pride and belonging to every parent. I[0x1]ll tell you more about it when I have my own one day[0x1]

About Sonja

Born in 1982 in South Africa, Sonja grew up and spent the first 24 years of her life in the Northern Cape and North West. She grew up in a creative environment surrounded by very artistic family members.

It was only after she completed her studies and joined informal classes in oil painting that she discovered her new found passion in art. Since then, she has moved to Cape Town and made a career as a bookkeeper while nurturing art as a hobby.

In 2012 she finally decided to quit the world of full time finances and spend more time pursuing her artistic passion. She mainly works with charcoal and oils. She enjoys figurative work, believing that humans bring life, activity, character and atmosphere to a painting. Her paintings are inspired by human life and the beauty of nature.

On a personal level, Sonja is a great believer in pursuing one's dreams. She encourages everyone she knows to explore their creative side.
