About Erna

Erna Dry

Born in South Africa,
and with a teaching diploma from Bulawayo,
she could not help but to give in to her lifelong passion for art.

A self-taught ceramic sculptor who never gets enough time for painting and drawing although she passionately loves them in all their forms; oil painting, watercolor, life drawing, sketching, botanical drawings, etc.

Although ceramic sculpting is what earns a living at the moment, it is her drawing ability that allows her to understand and decorate some of her sculptures so exquisitely. Often clay slabs become the medium for drawing, creating wonderful tiles with figures or fynbos themes.
Erna[0x1]s inspiration is drawn from nature, and specifically plants

The intricate detail of petals and leaves allows her to
express her natural enjoyment of detail in the drawing.

Universal ethnic design has greatly influenced her design for the studio.

The lifelong search for self, being a woman, and the challenge and joys of relationships and mythology
are the inspiration for her own work which includes pieces in bronze, ceramic, and panels of various sizes.
