About Margie

Margie Haslewood

I was born in Johannesburg and lived my childhood in suburbia, close to the Zoo and this gave me a love for beautiful green spaces and a lively imagination when, lying in bed at night, we heard lions roaring in their enclosures. I followed the path that parents prefer their children to take namely, study, get a degree and find a well paid job. But I never lost the desire to be involved in crafts and art in general.
Twenty years ago we moved to Cape Town to live a less-stressed life with the hopes that I would have more time for my personal desire to paint. It took me 12 years to get to the stage where I would be able to start my art career and dream. I have no formal education in art but have taken lessons with private teachers in Cape Town. I finally feel that I have accomplished what I wanted to do and I love the joy that allows me to create "art".
I started painting with acrylics and then moved on to oils a couple of years ago and love painting in this medium.
I also love to spend an afternoon in the ceramics studio where I create bowls, vases, candle stick holders and one-off sculptures.
I see beauty and a story in almost everything that I see and I feel compelled to lay colour on a blank canvas allowing my personal impression of what I am viewing to be created. I often start with a concept and then I find my mind and hands taking over and I allow this process to happen as I feel that this is when the sub-conscious is allowed to enter into the creation of the piece of art.
I specialize in portraiture, landscapes & still life oil paintings. Sculptures of people and purposeful items.
Thank you for viewing my profile and my art pieces.
