About "Slipper Orchid"

This is a botanical illustration of a Slipper Orchid that I received from a friend some years ago. The orchid had 15 flowers, which I thought to be great and I wanted to paint this beautiful flower to ensure that it will still be alive in paint long after the plant's life time.

About Fransie

Fransie Pretorius

1940 - Fransiolemtru (Fransie) Pretorius:
'My paintings are about my intuitive responses to the world around me. In my interaction with any plant, object or other subject matter, I analyse and respond with empathy towards the unseen and hidden qualities of the image. Ordinary, mundane and familiar objects that have some personal meaning to me, are portrayed in the various paintings and drawings that I produce.

Objects reveal something about its origins, different cultures and periods, place and time. In still life paintings they can all simultaneously co-exist in the same realistic space.

I invite the viewer to explore the multiple planes of reality revealed in the objects I present in my Still Life paintings. I want to share the wonder of objects, plants and those ordinary things that inspire me. I strive towards creating pictures that will stimulate the viewer to experience the magical elements hidden in the unseen parts of the image.
I am inspired by light which brings everything around us to life. I respond to the world around me and find my inspiration in flowers and plants as well as the objects and "things" with which we surround ourselves.
Material objects do not only consist of shape, colour and form. They are expressions of our dreams, hopes and aspirations. They encapsulate and reveal the human condition. In my art I endeavor to capture something of the spiritual and of the life force which transcends the mundane and familiarity of the subjects I choose.'
