Sylvia came to my house one day looking for work... this was fortuitous as I had been looking for a model, and she is a beautiful woman with big expressive eyes and a strong neck and shoulders. Her name, Sylvia means spirit of the forest. I had an immediate rapport with her and enjoyed our sessions. Models usually sit for half an hour for a stretch, and then have a fifteen minute break. Sylvia would sometimes fall asleep during our session, I had to wake her up to paint her eyes. The painting took about two weeks to complete. I was happy with the result... the painting expresses her serenity.
I love standing in front of my canvas... here my oil paints blossom into figures and shapes. It's a magical experience for me as I never know how my painting will turn out in the end. I concentrate on figurative art. My last commissioned work was for SunInternational when I painted some large paintings for their VIP Lounge at Carnival City in Brakpan, South Africa.
