About "The Three Stages of Life" Recently I was requested to produce a painting for a book cover, but the author eventually selected an existing work. The subject of the book, the Art of Living and Dying Consciously, is very close to my heart and the discussion I had with the author, was the inspiration for this work. The triptych typically represents the three stages: Childhood (O-18 yrs), Adulthood (18-42, Midlife crisis) and Old Age (42-onwards). I have made use of many symbols, but the main ones: The Wheel of Fortune for Adulthood. This represents the impermanence of all things, but also the Law of Karma. Death for midlife crisis, since the death of the life up to that stage is necessary before a new stage can start. This can be very difficult for many. The World for Old Age, represents the culmination of a cycle and also the Integration of the Self. The Foolrepresents the Self, and I have used it twice at the beginning and the end of life. |
