About Willem Lodewikus

Willem Lodewikus Viljoen

When I did a drawing in Grade 6, my teacher told me that I should never try to become an artist and gave me 0 out of 10 for my project. I never felt so humiliated in my life. I always had a desire to paint and started by drawing cartoon characters as a hobby. At the age of 14 I painted 5 commissioned art works for friends and next of kin, but became too busy attending to the demands of my professional life and family, wasting many years not touching a brush. In 2002 we moved to Cape Town and while being here for three months before my wife could join me, I decide to paint a wildlife scene as a present to her. She was so excited when I gave it to her and with her support I started painting again. Since then I have been painting on a constant basis. I love painting people and wildlife, though it is not the only subject I paint. I also do landscapes. I feel proud to present my work, bearing in mind that I had no formal training in art. Thank you for your support and God bless.
