About Laurinda

Laurinda Smit

Laurinda started coloring in mandalas as a therapy to pass the time during the long winter in 2006. As i am open to new experiences and becoming aware of the challenge of continuously experimenting with new forms and ideas, i feel as if a new world unfolds in me. The exhilaration and revelation with each work that is completed remains an inspiration.

Designing mandalas utilizing all and any tools available give rise to viewing objects as a medium to create and redefine their purpose. A pre conceived outcome is seldom part of the development and design of her mandalas. It is as if each mark, colour and pattern has a life of its own mounting into a perfect imperfect creative art work.

Laurinda craft her mandalas, using colour as background medium, drawing symbols and patterns in pointillism. She also makes use of paper mache to further enhance the designs.

Residing in Great Brak River she has constructed a sculpture garden, 103 Steps; where people can experience quietness and serenity in paths that lead too many different viewing points and unfolds in a labyrinth.

Laurinda had a Solo exhibition in March 2015 in Great Brak and launched her first colour in book in September. She also offers workshops on Mandalas giving individuals the opportunity to be drawn into a world of, serenity and peacefulness.

Laurinda launched her second solo exhibition at her Boutique Gallery on 103, in Great Brak River during March 2016.
Emphasizing the fact that everyone has a creative side; one just need to show courage in taking a step on a journey to discover the unknown....
