About "Afghan girl"

I was fascinated by the story of Sharbat Gula, who was orphaned at the age of 12....a victim of the Afghan-Russian war. She was found by National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry in a Pakistani refugee camp originally, and after losing contact with her, conducted an extensive search in Afghanistan where he found her 17 years later!!!
She was positively identified through advanced iris scans and Steve received worlwide acclaim through his story and photography, also appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
It was through Oprahs' personal assistant that I contacted Steve McCurry, and in short, he now has my painting of Sharbat Gula hanging in his studio in 5th Ave NY.

About Colin

Colin Eksteen

Colin Eksteen started painting in August 2000. "Although I have have had no formal art training, I served my 'apprenticeship' by successfully copying 80 famous paintings by the Impressionists and various abstract artists for LIPCO, a Law firm in S.A.
My true passion is Namibia and its'people, namely, the HIMBA tribe of Kaokoland. I recently spent a month with the Himba gathering reference material, which was a life changing experience for me that will always cause me to strive to capture the enchanting character of these beautiful people on canvas.
I hope my paintings convey the spirit in which they were painted."
