About "Angel #1"

Whilst strolling through a cemetary in Durban, I stumbled upon this statue of a praying angel. Armed with my camera I took a few pictures up close and tightly cropped, and this is the result.

The aesthetic of this photograph is contrasted by the sad and tragic reason for the statue's existence - The death of a child - Invoking mixed feelings and emotions.

The angelic beauty of the child-angel watching over our loved one's that has moved on instills a serene and calming sense over the viewer, and invites one to form a personal introspective opinion and interpretation.

A2 size on photographic paper. Slightly cropped and adjusted.

About Matt

When expressing myself through whatever art-medium I use, I find that I reflect a range of interests that includes: music, current affairs, history, meditation, metaphysics, popular culture, literature and urban life, into my works. Sometimes subtle, sometimes blatantly obvious, I offer a piece of my life in every artwork I make.

I do not limit myself to one medium, and choose to express myself through any means possible. Be it paint, digital, charcoal or photography.

If I had to assign one characteristic to my works, I would say that there is always something more to it below the surface. The messages in my art conveys itself on different levels and a closer look may drastically influence one's interpretation.
