About "Avocado, Beer, and Cellphone - Congo"

Mbuji-Mayi, with its rich cultural heritage, developed around the diamond mining industry.
Walking through the old colonial streets, I soon realized that water is the second most precious commodity after diamonds. The local girls start their search for water early every morning. Large plastic water containers are everywhere.

I enjoyed the company of the friendly local people. And for dinner, my favorite meal was one of the big avocados with a cold bottle of the Skol beer, the best in the world!

About Jacob

Jacob Seidman

Hi, my name is Yakkov Seidman, I live and work in Johannesburg, South Africa.
I was born in Bucharest, Romania, and graduated from Tel Aviv University.

I discovered art later in life and began my art-making journey with life drawing attending life-drawing classes. I studied art at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

My work explores many themes, ranging from the human form to still life and abstraction. I like exploring the literary works of the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. My work concerns the human condition, relating to love, alienation, and culture.

I am influenced by the 20th-century German Expressionist artists like Georg Baselitz, Martin Kippenberger, and Max Beckmann.

Among the great Spanish artists, I admire the confidence in Pablo Picasso's works and love the works of the "New King" Miquel Barcelo.

Paris is my favorite city, and my journeys across Africa and Congo have inspired many of my works.

My artworks attracted (were selected by) art lovers from the USA, France, and South Africa.

I always remember Edvard Munch's quote. "No longer shall I paint interiors with men reading and women knitting. I will paint living people who breath and feel and suffer
and love"
