About "Be Still and Wait Through the Storm"
"I think our spirits define who we are and reflect a lot about humans and their behavior towards themselves and others."
This painting is a reflection between sky and earth, representing the spirit and the soul. The relationship between faith and life and between the real and the imaginary gets reflected by the translucent blending and mixed surfaces of the painting. One cannot exist without the other.
You can tell the waves be still, Tell the ocean roar to pass. Lord until it does, I'll wait here... The storm is not in me, I'll wait here.
"My work is about a very specific message to a specific viewer. I see myself as a glorified postmaster. However, the work itself is a unique hybrid of painting and wax."
The surface of the painting is made up of layers of oils, inks, and wax, which give the finished work a three-dimensional quality. A sense of seeing through the top layer into hidden messages and layers below. The layering gives the work a softness and richness that invites the viewer to look closer and to experience the satin-smooth surface through touch. The wax layers get more and more translucent through the warmth emanating from the exploring human hand. The viewers become a part of the slow change and clarity of the painting...as if the message is rising from the depth of the hidden soul to the surface of the mind There is a strange ethereal beauty in these paintings as if they were made from air.

About Leonie
How I Create
The brightness of oils is mixed with the soft translucency of encaustics (wax), and creates hidden messages and layers below. The layering gives the work a softness and richness that invites the viewer to look closer and to experience the satin-smooth surface through touch. The wax layers get more and more translucent through the warmth emanating from the exploring human hand. The viewer becomes a part of the slow change and clarity of the painting...as if the message is rising from the depth of the hidden soul to the surface of the mind. There is a strange ethereal beauty to these paintings, as if made from air.
