About "Cathedral"
The red flower of Haemanthus with its pincushion stamens appears in March out of the sand without any leaves. It will be eaten by animals out in the open, so the ones who survive are usually protected by shrubs like this thorny bush. It reminded me of a sanctuary like a cathedral.

About Annelie
I am living on a farm in the Sandveld between Velddrif and Piketberg. I am inspired by my surroundings and the wealth of indigenous wildflowers of the area. The detailed, sensitive (almost impressionistic) paintings stems from a fusion of my scientific background and creative spirit. The images transcend the mere physical appearance of the subject and become visual poetry about Creation.
