About Dorothea
Dorothea Was born in the Natal Midlands, her parents were farmers. Growing up in the countryside, she developed a great love for Nature; especially wild flowers, which were to, became a lifelong passion. At the age 13 she entered a flower show and won first prize in her category. This resulted in a memorable moment for her. Over the years she has entered many national and international art shows and won several prestigious awards. She married early in life and had three children; she was a stay-at- home Mom but always-found time to pursue her various artistic interests. She learned the art of working Pewter and Copper, something that was very fashionable at the time. Her efforts in this regard did not go unnoticed and she went on to win an honorary award at the Royal show in Pietermaritzburg. When her children where older and she had more time on her hands, she went for Art classers and was taught by professional Artists in Oils. She has exhibited in several public exhibitions where she has sold her work. Having relocated from Natal, she now resides in the most inspiring place of all, Cape Town where there is such an abundance of Flora and such diversity in landscape and life. This is now the inspiration for her Art. She works in soft pastels and oils and her work is displayed at the S.A.A.S. exhibitions at Kirstenbosh botanical Gardens. She is going to be having an exhibition of her own in July. Dorothea[0x1]s work is realistic and really conveys her deep love for flowers and nature.
