About "Doctor's Wife"

This work is specifically a comment on a certain kind of acquired status that is a hazard of being married to an important person in small university towns. The woman is beautiful but vacuous, a bauble with baubles. It is not enough to be someone in your own right but you must show off your fabulous husband to optimal effect. I was feeling feminist and anti-Stellenbosch at the time. I'm OK now.
