About "Dune Daisies"

This is one of my oil paintings that is closely tied to my improved physical and emotional well-being I experienced after relocating to the Cape from Pretoria. Apart from the health benefits both myself and a rescue dog named Skyla that I adopted, I couldn't resist a series of paintings depicting the unspoiled beauty of this west coastline, and so I did, everything from Table Mountain and sunsets, to washed up seaweed to the beautiful rocks.

About Justin

Justin Zimmerman

I began my artistic journey in 1981, enrolling at the Vaal Triangle Technikon's School of Art & Design in Vanderbijlpark, where I studied graphic design. By the mid-1990s, I started seriously pursuing my passion for art, initially creating wildlife pastels for a gallery in Pretoria. In the early 2000s, I transitioned to oil painting and began producing aviation art--a genre inspired by my lifelong fascination with aircraft, which began when I was just six years old.

In 2005, I became a member of the Johannesburg Art Society, exhibiting regularly at Zoo Lake for several years. I also held solo exhibitions in Pretoria and sold my work through the Henry Taylor Gallery in Johannesburg.

In 2012, I relocated to Cape Town with my family, shifting my focus to Moto-Art, primarily featuring motorcycles, while also beginning a series of landscape paintings. My work gained broader recognition when I was featured in South African Artist magazine (Issue #47) in 2019.

My interest in military history and aircraft soon led me to explore military art, with a growing focus on historic aviation scenes, combat aircraft, and moments of wartime valor. My paintings aim to capture the tension, power, and emotion of military conflict with a strong narrative presence. These works reflect not only technical accuracy but also my deep respect for the individuals and machinery that shaped modern history.

In 2021, I joined the South African Society of Artists (SASA) and have since exhibited at prominent venues such as Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Rondebosch Art in the Park. Today, I continue to produce military and aviation-themed art--often my most personal and passionate work--alongside oil landscapes, and occasionally I still work in pencil.
